Our Story
Here at Grange Hill farm, we love our Highlands. We breed Highland Cattle or Coos as they are affectionately called all over the world. We are a registered breeder with the Australian Highland Cattle Society (AHCS). We love our Coos so much we can’t stop photographing them! If you don’t have room for a real coo we sell quality digital and traditional darkroom prints of coos and general farm life. Perfect for hanging on your wall, because all homes are better with a coo!
Highlands are docile, beautiful and extremely hardy. Bred to survive in the wilds of the islands and highlands of Scotland they are the worlds oldest registered breed.
Grange Hill Farm started in 2012 when the opportunity came to trade the rigors of professional life for farm life.
Finding the rich fertile soils and abundant rainfall of the North West Tasmanian Region irresistible, David and Catriona moved from sunny Queensland to Tasmania, Australia.
Having grown up on farms it was only natural that we wanted to get back in touch with the land.
Our first purchase of Highlands came very shortly after; purely for our own enjoyment. We quickly fell under the spell of this amazing old-world breed and became a registered breeder under the fold name ‘Cluanag’ (Gaelic for small pasture) with the AHCS.
We offer cattle for sale and always welcome inquiries. Even if we don’t currently have listed sale stock, we invariably have upcoming calving and are happy to discuss your needs regards any future purchase.
Highlands are wonderful animals and extremely photogenic! David has been an avid photographer for many years and can’t resist using our girls as his models! We believe that a coo makes a home and even if you can’t have real sized one in the backyard, you can at least have a photograph! We have both modern digital and old school film and darkroom prints available for sale. If you see a photo you like but not in a format you want, let us know and we can discuss your needs.
